![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Whatever the doomsayers vouchsafe solid written reportage is not dead yet. If this particular kind of journalism isn't penetrating the young consciousness, it should and I urge English teachers, teachers of modern history, sociology teachers and anyone else who can work it into their curriculum to seek out the best reporters, the best "journalists" and ply their charges with the best of their work. I wonder what today's school-kids imagine when they say they want to be a journalist… do they envisage writing about science, or economics, or celebrities, or do they see themselves as television reporters standing in flak jackets doing the obligatory piece-to-camera in the latest war zone? Do they even read newspapers any more? Do they realise that there are still also people out there in those war zones, without the glamour flak-jacket, just (if they're lucky) the ordinary pock-marked one, that they prefer not to wear because it's way too hot? People who still ply the classic trade of actually writing what they see and trusting that they can do it well enough for the words to stand alone without the sound effects, without (quite often) any pictures, to make it "real"? Tim Butcher's day job from 1990 to 2009 was "journalist". ![]()

So, without further ado, here at 15 Characters We Want To See In The Dark Tower Movies: ![]() Not all of the characters in this list are likely going to show up in the first Dark Tower movie - which, according to King will start out in "the middle of the story, rather than the beginning" - but if the first movie is a hit, we hope that all of these fascinating personalities will make their way to the screen at some point. However, the complicated mythology of The Dark Tower is made real by its all-too-human collection of characters, a cast from multiple worlds and timelines. The novel opens with a disturbing dream that jolts the narrator out of her sleep. The Door is a fascinating tale and a character study focused on the relationship between two women – the narrator who has a flourishing career as an author and her rather peculiar and unforgettable housekeeper, Emerence. Q: I'M A CORRECT IN MY ASSUMPTION? One of JRL's talents is coming up with interesting characters. I think he should have more confidence in his writing and know when to stop the rubber necking. I really like Lansdale's writing and think he is extremely intelligent and witty. I thought the point was made fairly early on and the continued body count and descriptive tortures could have ended much sooner. lansdale wants you to understand why the main good character, Jack Parker, agreed to killing the bad guys instead of capturing them. Konrath novel the killing and explicit torture just would not stop. Once you get to know the characters it sounds similar to True Grit. THAT WAS THE SIZE OF IT AND I PUT IT ON TO WEAR. Just like the last Lansdale I read, this started out like a Mark Twain novel. I LIKED READING IT, BUT DECIDED I DID NOT WANT TO LIVE IT. JESUE FORGIVES, SO WHY NOT ENJOY YOURSELF ![]() |
